BBC News// The earthquake in Japan has resulted in slow-down and suspension of nuclear programs in some countries. But not in South Asia. The authorities of Bangladesh declared about continuation of implementation of the plan on the NPP construction with the assistance of Russia. Pakistan is keeping silent about its NPPs that are in the seismically active zone. India has declared about its intention to revise the safety systems in its NPPs, but it won’t stop its “pro-atomic” policy. The main argument in favour of nuclear power industry is deficit of electric power on the Indian market. «More than 40% of our people do not have any access to electricity», says Srikumar Banerjee, Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission of India.
